FAQs

  • The Original Hot Yoga sequence was designed for beginners. During each 90-minute class, we practice the exact same postures in the exact same order. It allows you to gradually progress in each asana while building both strength and flexibility. The heated environment will lubricate your joints & tendons and help muscles stretch deeper.

  • The insides of our body are naturally warm & moist. By creating an external environment to mirror our internal state, we can help our muscles warm up faster, reducing the risk of injury, while allowing for deeper stretches and improved flexibility.

  • Each of the 26 postures in the sequence is safe & accessible for beginners and does not include arm balancing inversions, such as headstands. If you have any injuries or health conditions, please have a discussion with your teacher before class. They will be able to guide you through precautions and modifications, as necessary.

  • Every OHY class starts with a breathing exercise, ends with a breathing exercise and follows the same 2 sets of 26 postures sandwiched in between. The nature of routine offers a sense of familiarity and semblance of comfort within the challenge. Repetition builds mastery, making the sequence simple to learn. Students are able to rapidly understand the flow of the practice. 

    • Hydration: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after class to optimize your mind and body’s ability to perform. 

    • Electrolytes: You will sweat!! It’s important to replenish yourself. There are plenty of options to explore and find the best product for you. 

    • Listen to your body: If you feel light headed or over extended, please modify poses or take a break. You are always welcome to lie down in Savasana at any point during class

  • While the Original Hot Yoga series can be particularly challenging, it can also be equally rejuvenating and rewarding! It takes about 10 classes on average to adapt to the conditions of the Hot Room. So please keep this in mind when starting your practice.

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes early and bring a yoga mat, full length towel and water bottle. HYSM has all supplies available to rent, as well.

    All belongings and shoes can be stored in cubbies at the front and are to be left outside the hot room.
